At 23h42 on November 21st 2016, the Southern Power Projects Management Board (SPMB) combined with relevant units to organize commissioning and energizing project “Improving, upgrading the 220kV Phu Lam – Long An transmission line transmission line” under project “Improving, upgrading the 220kV Phu Lam – Cai Lay transmission line 2”.

The project is constructed to replace the existing 220kV transmission line which has operated over 20 years and become degraded. It aims at increasing transmission and connection capacity of regional power system, strengthening reliability, providing a stable and uninterrupted power supply for the Southern West areas.

The project has total cost of over VND 911 billion, invested by National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), SPMB is on behalf of EVNNPT to manage the project, Power Engineering Consultation Company No. 2 (PECC2) is responsible for project design; Power Construction Company No. 1 (PCC1) is responsible for implementation; the project will be assigned to PTC4 for management and operation after its completion.

The scope of project “Improving and Upgrading the 220kV Phu Lam – Cai Lay 2 transmission line” is as follows:

- Project 1 – Improving, upgrading the 220kV Phu Lam – Long An transmission line: From 500kV Phu Lam substation, tensioning 220kV double circuits in 3 circuit tower of 500kV Phu Lam – O Mon transmission line (1 circuit at 500kV and 2 circuits at 220kV); the remaining section will be in right of way of the 220kV Phu Lam – Cai Lay 1 transmission line in order to improve to 2 circuits at 220kV running to the 220kV Long An substation.

- Project 2 – Improving, upgrading the 220kV Long An – Cai Lay 2 transmission line: Improving the 220kV Long An – Cai Lay 2 transmission line from 1 circuit to 2 circuit in the existing transmission line right of way (RoW), replacing some equipment of 2 220kV feeders connecting to 220kV Cai Lay substation at existing 220kV Long An substation.

The transmission line has a length of 30 Km, running through Binh Tan precinct, Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh city; Ben Luc, Thu Thua districts and Tan An city of Long An province; Chau Thanh, Cai Lay districts of Tien Giang province.

This is one of urgent projects aiming at reducing power loss and overload for the existing transmission line. The project requires high efforts and determination by SPMB, with frequent presence by leaders and staff, even in weekends and holidays, to settle occurred problems, because this is an improved project, implemented in existing old and in-operation transmission line, with many difficulties faced in power cut-off for foundation digging, tower erection and conduction tension.

The energized project 1 will contribute to ensuring a stable, secure, un-interrupt power supply  for serving socio-economic development, especially ensuring power supply to Ho Chi Minh city, Long An province and surrounding areas./.
