The 220kV Vinh Long – Tra Vinh transmission line is of 62.2 km length, with the beginning point of 220 kV bus bar of 220 kV Vinh Long substation, the end point of 220 kV Tra Vinh substation, running through 2 provinces of Vinh Long (including Vinh Long city and Long Ho, Vung Liem districts) and Tra Vinh (including Can Long and Chau Thanh districts). This is the 2-circuit transmission line using the phase division line, which can evacuate power with a high security.  The total investment cost is VND 554.77 billion, using World Bank (WB) fund – Credit loan No. 8026-VN, belonging to the Transmission and Distribution 2 project (TD2). Total WB loan fund is about USD 16 million which is used for equipment and civil works. The project started in 2012 and put into operation by end of April 2013. The design consultation is responsible by the Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company (PECC3), while the construction is responsible by a Joint Venture Viet A Trade and Development Stock Company and Song Da Stock Company No. 11.

The project is in celebration of the Southern liberation and country unification, the 1st May - International Labour day and Vietnam Trade Union Conference – session XI.

The 220kV Tra Vinh substation is constructed in Luong Hoa commune, Chau Thanh district, Tra Vinh province, with a total area of 29,000m2. It has a capacity of 2x125MVA – 220/110 kV (installation of one 125MVA transformer in phase 1). Total investment cost for the project is VND 168.85 billion, using World Bank (WB) fund, Credit loan No. 8026-VN,  belonging to the Transmission and Distribution 2 project (TD2). Total WB fund is about USD 4 million using for equipment and civil works. The design consultation is responsible by the Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company (PECC3), while the construction is responsible by the One- member Limited Liability Power Engineering Company No. 2. The project started in September 2011 and put into no load operation in December 2012 and official operation in April 2013.

During the project implementation, both projects have been provided with a close and effective support by the local authorities and people of the districts where the line runs through, especially in the compensation and site clearance. There are 1,705 affected households in the whole transmission line route of 220 kV and 110 kV. At the 220kV Tra Vinh location, there are 11 affected households. The compensation and site clearance has been carried out in accordance with the State and local regulations. There are not any appeals and complaints  during the project implementation.

Right after being put into operation, the 220kV Vinh Long – Tra Vinh transmission line and 220kV Tra Vinh substation has brought in high efficiency, the regional power voltage has been increased stably. It helps in overcoming the fact that over many years, Tra Vinh was provided with power supply in a single 110kV Vinh Long – Tra Vinh transmission line which was too old and frequently overloaded affecting the power supply to the province, especially  in the failures and repair situations. This has high impacts on the socio-economic development and ensures the security, facilitates the repair and improvement of the 220kV Vinh Long – Tra Vinh transmission line.

The 220kV Vinh Long – Tra Vinh transmission line and 220kV Tra Vinh substation was decided by EVN’s Labour Union to hang a sign in celebration of  the Southern liberation and country unification, the 1st May - International Labour day and Vietnam Trade Union Conference – session XI. This is a timely recognition and major encouragement given by higher levels to the units participated in the project, especially the Southern Power Projects Management Board (SPMB) which directly manages and executes the project. With this project, EVNNPT in general and SPMB in particular will have more experiences in implementing the transmission projects. For example, preparation for implementing the projects which are in synchronization with Duyen Hai Thermal Power Centre, namely 500kV Duyen Hai Thermal Power Centre substation, 500kV Duyen Hai – My Tho Transmission line, 220kV Duyen Hai – Tra Vinh transmission line, 220kV Duyen Hai – Mo Cay – Ben Tre transmission line in order to receive power and evacuate power to the power grid.
