According to report by Power Transmission Company No. 3 (PTC3), in order to prevent, minimize the impacts and demages caused by flood, ensure safety for the operator and transmission grid, PTC3 strengthened the inspection of transmission lines, equipment, substations, warehouses, construction works before the flood season comes. To do this, PTC3 often carries out a number of tasks: To inspect the important points of transmission line routes; check, consolidate and settle the failures of transmission lines; complete the overhauls for transmission lines before flood season comes according to the list of overhauls approved in the decision on tasks assignment for each subsidiary; check the locations where the flow tend to run toward the tower base; strengthen the inspection at night to find out the conductor joints, exothermal contactors, fault insulators in order to provide the timely solution; check the critical points close to rivers, streams, sloping pass, high hills, foundation embarkment, etc; Make soil embarkment to lead flows out of tower foundation. Inspect regularly the locations of a height of over 50m; cut off all the high trees remained within the right of way (RoW). Combine with the localities, farms to settle the cases that the high trees may collapse on the transmission lines when heavy rains and flood occur in order to make sure that the out-of-RoW high trees are basically cut off to ensure a safe distance when they collapse.
Besides, PTC3 often check the management and operation of the eligible transformers; consolidate, settle the failures in substation; complete the overhaul items in substation related to flood control and protection before rainy season comes, with special attention given to the 500kV substations.

Chairman Dang Phan Tuong checked the flood-season operation of the 220kV Phan Thiet substation, in Binh Thuan province.
Chairman Dang Phan Tuong requires PTC3, apart from preparation before rainy season comes, to remain regularly smooth communication from the Company’s Steering Committee on Flood Control and Protection to its subsidiaries’ ones and among the subsidiaries; regularly check the communication system, fully report the flood situations to the Company’s Steering Committee on Flood Control and Protection for timely instruction. Strengthen the inspection at night to find out the exothermal conductor joints, contactor, fault insulators for timely solutions; strengthen the inspection at critical locations close to river, stream, slopy pass, high hill, foundation embarkment, especially the locations of a height of over 50m.
The 220 kV Phan Thiet substation was put into operation in July 2010. It has a capacity of 375 MVA, with the main tasks on power supply to Binh Thuan province and a part of Ninh Thuan province. At present, a synchronous power supply project is being deployed at the substation for serving the test of Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant in this August./.
