The project has a total investment of VND 579 billion, phase 1 – replacement of a transformer from 450MVA to 900MVA was completed, phase 2 – replacement of the second transformer to be energized tentatively in December 2013. Being started in December 2012, after 5 month implementation on construction of series of works such as foundation of transformer, firewalls, portal tower foundation, equipment supporting pillar foundation and other construction such as cable trench system, portal pillars, transformers, protection control system, DCL and 500kV light arrester, fire protection and treatment system, etc, the project was completed and put into operation as scheduled.

The upgrade of capacity of the 500 kV Phu Lam substation, replacement of the 500kV AT2 transformer has an importance in strengthening the capacity, minimizing the overload, which contribute to the secure, stable power supply for the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh city and surrounding areas.
