The 500kV series capacitor bank put into operation.
The project “replacement of a 500kV series capacitor in 500kV Pleiku substation” has been completed 04 days before schedule by PTC3. This is the final 500kV series capacitor bank under project “Upgrade of series capacitor for the 500kV Pleiku- Phu Lam transmission line” invested by National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT). PTC4 was assigned by EVNNPT to manage and execute the project, PTC3 carried out the implementation, management of operation.
The new 500kV series capacitor bank and accessories are produced by GE Energy. It has a total 864 capacitors, a rated current of 2000A and rated capacity of 366 MVAR (the former TBD502 has a total 360 capacitors, a rated current of 1000A and rated capacity of 124,5 MVAR).
The project “Upgrade of series capacitor for 500kV Pleiku- Phu Lam transmission line” has a total investment cost of over VND 857 billion, including 06 series capacitor banks of a rated current of 2000A for replacing the series capacitor banks at the 500kV Dak Nong, Di Linh, Pleiku substations. In which, 02 banks installed in 500kV Dak Nong substation (01 bank for the 500kV Dak Nong – Phu Lâm transmission line; 01 bank for the 500kV Pleiku – Dak Nong transmission line) were energized and put into operation from June 2013; 02 banks installed in the 500kV Di Linh substation (01 bank for the 500kV Pleiku - Di Linh transmission line; 01 bank for the 500kV Di Linh – Tan Dinh transmission line) were energized and put into operation by end July 2013; out of 02 banks installed in the 500kV Pleiku substation (01 bank for the 500kV Pleiku – Dak Nong transmission line; 01 bank for the 500kV Pleiku – Di Linh transmission line) 01 bank was put into operation from June 2012 when implementing phase 1 of this project.
Phase 2 of the project started in April 2013. The project was implemented in the severe weather conditions because of typical characteristics of rainy season in Western Highlands: intense heat, rains come quickly, heavy and long-time rains, especially affected by Utor storm); the equipment are cubersome, heavy, installation was always at a height of 12m from the surface of land, surrounding equipment were “hot line”, etc. caused many difficulties for the implementer.
Mr. Tran Quoc Lam – EVNNPT’s Vice President is checking the project before commissioning and energizing. With the high determination, close direction by leaders, especially the direction and attention given by Mr. Dang Phan Tuong – EVNNPT’s Chairman of Management Board, Mr. Tran Quoc Lam – EVNNPT’s Vice President, Mr. Hoang Xuan Phong – PTC3’s Director and leaders of implementing units, as well as the high efforts by the workers, the implementation was carried out quickly, accurately, ensuring the technical specifications set by equipment providers and safety for implementers and equipment.
The units under PTC3 participating in the implementation include: Mechanico-Electrical Division, Testing Division, Transport Division, Technical Division, Pleiku Power Transmission Branch, Dak Nong Power Transmission Branch, Highland Power Transmission and the 500kV Pleiku substation. With the practical experiences and consolidarity, internal forces advantage, the subordinate units under PTC3 have deployed and completed successfully all project items including foundation dig and cast, unloading the old capacitor banks, unloading the short circuit breakers, installation of new capacitor banks, primary equipment, protection cabinets, stringing the cable and connecting the secondary circuits, testing and putting into operation.
Mr. Tran Quoc Lam – EVNNPT’s Vice President – hosted a meeting of EVNNPT’s project commissioning and energizing Council
This is one of the critical projects in power sector, which is assigned by Vietnam Electricity (EVN) to EVNNPT for investment.
The commissioning and putting into operation of the 500kV series capacitor banks under project “Upgrade of series capacitor for the 500kV pleiku – Phu Lam transmission line” has a high importance, contributing to increase capacity of the transmission line from 1000A to 2000A in order to transfer full capacity of hydropower plants in Western highlands to the national power grid, increase the stability of the system and strengthen power supply to the South, meeting timely the socio-economic, political development demands of the Southern provinces, in particular and the country, in general.
