Participation
in the meeting, Vietnam side includes guests from General Department of Energy,
Ministry of Industry and Trade, EVNNPT’s functional Departments, leaders and
experts from 7 subsidiaries. Siemens company includes senior technical experts:
Dr. Pakorn Thepparat – senior expert on HVDC/FACTS solution; Dr. Edwin
Lerc – expert on system stability and some other local experts.

Workshop on “Back-to-back technology and
HVDC/FACTs application in power transmission”
With a
short opening speech, President and CEO Vu Ngoc Minh shared that EVNNPT is
managing a power transmission in whole country and it has a demand on
interconnection with that of the regional countries such as Lao, Cambodia,
China. Therefore, the use of high-tech equipment such as SVC,
Back-to-back/HVDC, FACTs need to be considered and applied in Vietnam power
transmission network so that EVNNPT will manage, operate the transmission
system efficiently.
With
many year experiences on technologies solution, Dr. Pakorn Thepparat had a
detail technical presentation which is paid with high attention by all
participants. He shared on structure, operation manner and application of the
traditional high voltage power transmission system, including the classical
high voltage direct current (classic HVDC) and the advanced HVDC (plus HVDC),
Back to Back substation; FACTS including classic and plus static var
compensator (classic and plus SVC), TCSC; clarity the typical specifications,
advantages and disadvantages of the classic and plus SVC, for example harmonic
are often found in classic SVC, but almost no harmonic in plus SVC... The application
of FACTS and HVDC in increasing transmission capacity, the voltage stability,
interim period stability of power system and application in Vietnam power
system, especially in the North-South power transmission. Besides, Siemens
experts have presented the case studies on application of FACTS and HVDC in
global countries, focusing in Africa, North America, China and Southeast Asia, with
clear facts on application of Back-to-back and FACTs solutions in power system
of Vietnam.

TS. Pakorn Thepparat – senior expoert on HVDC&FACTs
made a presentation at the workshop
A 1 day
workshop closed, 1 day is not long, but with the actual information share and
active discussion, the workshop has provided useful knowledge for the managers,
operators, engineers of EVNNPT and PECCs, brought in the overall and detail
concepts in application of high-tech equipment for increasing the operation
efficiency of the existing and future Vietnam power system./.
