These are two important transmission projects which have been approved in Master Plan VI and VII by the Prime Minister, contributing to the power supply for economic development and social security protection of Hanoi capital in dry season of this year and next coming years.

According to the Northern Power Projects Management  Board (NPPMB), the 220kV Soc Son - Van Tri transmission line with total length of 27.3 km and 101 foundations is passing 10 communes and towns of 3 districts: Dong Anh, Me Linh and Soc Son (Hanoi).
Total investment of this project is VND 254 billion, financed by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Development Agency of France (AFD) for material and equipment supply, the civil work cost of the project was allocated from loans and equity of EVNNPT.

The 220 kV Van tri substation with a total investment of VND 215 billion  will meet the need of socio-economic development of Me Linh, Dong anh districts and neighboring areas of  Hanoi to reduce load of 220 kV Chem and Soc Son substations.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, President and CEO of EVNNPT said that being the politics, economic and culture center of the whole country, Hanoi City is always the area with the highest load growth rate in the nation (over 15% per annum). According to forecast of this year, power load of Hanoi will be 2,436 MVA, 2,669 MVA in 2014 and 2,924 MVA in 2015. Meanwhile, the total installed capacity of five 220 kV/ 110kV substations which are supplying power for Hanoi was 2,875 MVA.

By putting these two projects into operation, Hanoi will be added more 500 MVA to the current installed capacity, equivalent to 17% of the existing capacity, to supply electricity for about 10 million people of the city and ensure sufficient load demand of Hanoi in 2013.

Mr. Dang Hoang An, Vice President of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), affirmed that with experiences got from the construction and management of these two projects, EVNNPT will have valuable lessons to accelerate the progress of new projects to ensure power supply for the capital, particularly in the implementation of 220 kV Van Tri - Chem which passes 30 communes of Me Linh, Dong Anh, and Tu Liem districts.
