At 4.50 pm May 5, 2014, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) has successfully energized and put into operation the 500kV Pleiku - My Phuoc - Cau Bong transmission line.

This is a key project among keys with the objective of ensuring power supply to the load demand growth in Southern region during 2014-2015 period, strengthening link transmission grid at 500kV level, creating premise for regional grid connection. It contributes to ensure the security and economic operation of the power system in case of power exchange requirement at high level among  regions in the country.

The 500kV Pleiku - My Phuoc - Cau Bong transmission is a double circuit newly built project which includes 4 phases per one circuit. The transmission line is 437.514 km long and stretches from the 500kV Pleiku substation to the 500kV Cau Bong substation, which included expansion of station areas in Pleiku and Cau Bong substations, installing equipment for one  500 kV feeder at each station. There is a backup location for installing equipment for second 500 kV feeder when needed . The project also construct 02 optical repeating substations which synchronize with optical cable lines on the 500kV Pleiku - My Phuoc - Cau Bong transmission line and 1,092m 22kV transmission line, 02 substations with capacity of 22/0,4kV – 50kVA which supply power for 02 Buon Don and Bu Dang optical repeating substations. The transmission line passes through the territory of 05 provinces : Gia Lai , Dak Lak , Dak Nong , Binh Phuoc , Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh city with a total length of 437.514 km, of which: - The section passes through Gia Lai province: DD - G15 is 82.382 km long. - The section passes through Dak Lak province: G15 - G28 is 74.593 km long. - The section passes through Dak Nong Province: G28 - G51 is 119.846 km long. - The section passes through Binh Phuoc Province: G51 - G69 is 98.133 km long. - The section passes through Binh Duong province: G69 - G81 is 47.983 km long. - The section passes through Ho Chi Minh City: From G81 to the 500kV Cau Bong substation is 14.577 km long. The section which improves to 2 circuits on the 500kV Tan Dinh - Phu Lam transmission line (circuit 2) is 7.51 km long.
Main volume of the project includes: Digging, embanking land and stone: 707,071 m3; Concrete types: 48,997.94 m3; Reinforced foundation: 3,276.05 tons; Steel tower: 35,737.94 tons; The conductor, arrester wires, optical cables and accessories: 21,173.20 tons. There are 4,787 households (811 houses) must compensate, relocate a long the transmission line. Among them: Gia Lai Province has 595 households (42 houses), Dak Lak Province has 500 households (54 houses), Dak Nong province has 1,499 households (466 houses), Binh Phuoc Province has 925 households (145 houses) , Binh Duong Province has 582 households (96 houses) and Ho Chi Minh City has 686 households (08 houses).
The projects using loans from institutions: WB Loan (DPL1) for design consultancy work; Asian Development Bank (ADB) Loan for packages conductor, lightning wires, optical cables and accessories; The Agence Francaise de développement (AFD) Loan for packages substation equipment and material, steel tower, insulators and fittings; Technical and Commercial Bank (Vietinbank) Loan for construction packages; Vietnam Development Bank (VDB) Loan for compensation and resettlement; The other costs funded by commercial credit arranged by EVNNPT.
Thus, after more than 30 months of construction by overcoming obstacles such as: (i) country economic situation still has many fluctuations that lead to prolong capital arrangement for project and impact on the selection of contractors; (ii) Difficulties in compensation and  site clearance because the project passes through many provinces (Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City), compensation price unit supporting land and property on land at the local level still remains insufficiently, inconsistently with the actual situation, such as the compensation rate for land, plants: Rubber and other valuable trees. Compensation value is very low compared to economic benefits that trees bring when harvested. This lead to households do not receive money and do not hand over the site, obstruct the construction process; The sections passing through special used forest takes a lot of time due to many procedures (open forest , gathering all products ... ); Site clearance of foundation and right of way to ensure energized conditions of the project are huge quantities . However, in the spirit of the most high work effort and full responsibility of EVN, EVNNPT, CPPMB’s  leaders and relating units were often closely manage the site to timely direct solving problems and many initiatives in executive management. On May 5, 2014 the project has put into operation on schedule as promised in the launching ceremony on September 29, 2013 in accordance with technical and quality requirements.
Earlier, the National Power Transmission Corporation has also successfully energized 02 500kV feeders to Cau Bong at 500kV Pleiku substation on April 21 and 02 500kV feeders  to  Pleiku at 500kV Cau Bong substation on April 28, prepared conditions for energizing this transmission line.
The project completion on time with quality and efficiency is the effort and determination to complete the tasks assigned by EVN/EVNNPT. It was also a result of intensive movement in labor units to implement the project even during the Lunar New Year; extensive propaganda on all media communications from the central to local levels, the support of newspapers, radio to the local has impacted on each workers, each citizen and relating officials about the meaning and importance of the project and help them understanding, accepting and sharing during the implementation process. The timely encouragements, visits of EVN, EVNNPT as well as the EVNNPT Trade Union missions are big encouragements for the forces participating in the site as well as Compensation Council / local authorities level where the transmission line passes through.
The 500kV Pleiku - My Phuoc - Cau Bong transmission line put into operation has a special meaning for the mission of social and economic development of the country. Along with the other transmission lines and substations, specific the 220kv Dak Nong - Phuoc Long - Binh Long transmission line has energized ahead of schedule on December 27, 2012, the 500kV Pleiku - My Phuoc - Cau Bong transmission line has put into operation, contributing to ensure the power supply to Southern area in 2014 - 2015 period and subsequent years. The project also contributes to strengthening security of the national power system, in case of any fault, it still ensures transmitting high capacity to the Southern provinces.
Besides, the project also has great cultural and political significance to the country. This is the project which power sector completes to celebrate the 39 years of Southern Liberation and national unity (30/4/1975-30/4/2014). It is more meaningful when completed in time the power sector is moving toward celebrating 20 years of operation of 500 kV North - South transmission line (27/51994 - 27/5/2014).
